About the Department
The Department of Political Science was started in 1942 with the aim to train students in the fundamentals of political science. The department is one of the most active, vibrant and innovative centres in the discipline of political science in the country today. In recognition of its contribution it has been awarded both the UGC Special Assistance Programme (SAP) as well as the Assistance in Humanities and Social Sciences (ASHISS).
It has continually and systematically revised and updated its syllabi reflecting the changing concerns of the discipline and the emerging needs of society. The structure, content and design of its courses and syllabi have become a pacesetter for change within the region. Research has always been given due importance. The department has not only kept up with UGC guidelines but has in fact gone beyond these in many ways.
The M.A. and M. Phil programmes prepare students not only with specialized knowledge but also enable them to take on the challenges of a diverse but interlinked society.
